Joseph E. Finn

Boston Fire Commissioner

Joseph E. Finn is the Boston Fire Commissioner and Chief of Department.

CWS is honoring Commissioner Finn for his leadership in assuring that the contribution that first responders make to the quality of life of individuals with disabilities remains part of the Department’s mission.

In his 33-year career with the Boston Fire Department, he has served as Deputy Chief of Personnel and Division Commander. He was a committee member for the Massachusetts Human Resources Division in the development and implementation of the entry-level firefighters testing process.

Commissioner Finn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University in 2008, graduating magna cum laude. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Bunker Hill Community College.

Commissioner Finn served in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1982.

In 2017 Commissioner Finn was the recipient of the prestigious Metro Fire Chief of the Year Award, presented by the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association.
