Our Career Design School is about career pathways and progression. It is about helping students identify their career goals—then build an action plan to design and launch sustainable careers. It’s about continuous improvement on the job, so that you can climb the career ladder of your choice.
Our programs include two weeks of job readiness training. Each participant works one-on-one with a Community Work Services Job Placement Specialist and receives a year of follow-up support and job placement services.

All of our programs include two weeks of job readiness training. Our job readiness curriculum provides participants with tools and strategies that enhance our participants’ ability to obtain employment through workshops including resume preparation, self-esteem building, job search techniques and resources, interviewing techniques, and networking opportunities.
We help our students unlock their full potential through one-on-one coaching. Students learn how to create an eye-catching professional resume and cover letter; build their interview skills; handle difficult situations; build networking skills that will last a lifetime, and connect with industry professionals to find and keep a job that they are passionate about. Participants learn how to plan and set realistic goals after obtaining a desired job.

CWS’ Solar Technician Training Program is an intensive 15-week training program that directly addresses the ongoing need for community-focused workforce training programs that can support the specific employment needs of underserved individuals and help them develop strong pathways for career success and financial security.
The program will follow Power52 CEA’s existing NCCER accredited curriculum and provide 450 hours of training using in-person instruction. This program uses state-of-the-art virtual reality training simulators, which are the first in the United States, which students will utilize to accelerate training. A unique aspect of this program is that graduates will also be awarded 6 college credits from Paul Smith’s College that they can apply towards attaining an associate or bachelor’s degree, allowing graduates to establish a strong pathway to upward mobility.
Graduates will receive nationally recognized certifications in solar and wind technologies after passing the required exams:
• NCCER – National Center for Construction Education and Research
• NABCEP – North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners
• OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
• GWO – Global Wind Organization (optional)
• LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certification (optional)
At Community Work Services’ Commercial Production Training Program, participants learn how to package and prepare products for shipping. Training includes order fulfillment; folding, sealing, sorting, bundling; small parts packaging, and inventory control/warehousing. Participants are trained in workplace safety, food processing equipment/tasks, and mail tasks, including shipping and receiving.
We help students identify career paths and goals, and build an action plan to achieve those goals. Upon completion of the program, students also complete OSHA 10 General Industries Certification. Students are eligible to apply for employment with Community Work Services’ Commercial Production Team.

Our Culinary Training Program helps students prepare for entry-level positions in the rapidly growing food services sector. Training involves a mix of classroom curriculum with hands-on experience, and job placement assistance.
Participants learn about knife skills; food preparation; customer service; meal planning; food safety and sanitation; inventory management, and point-of-sale systems. At the end of the program students are prepared for the ServeSafe Manager’s exam, and are eligible to apply for employment with Community Work Services’ Culinary Team.

The CWS Career Design School At Your Service: Hotel and Hospitality Training Certificate Program prepares participants for jobs and careers in the fast-growing hospitality industry. We offer eight weeks of hands on industry training from the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute START Curriculum.
START (Skills, Tasks, and Results Training) for Individual Positions offers flexible and concise instructions on how to perform key tasks, along with the general hospitality knowledge and soft skills needed to succeed in a front-line position at a lodging property. Training culminates in a certification exam leading to a professional designation.

Participants in our Commercial Cleaning Program learn about universal precautions; management of safety data sheets; Industry-standard cleaning techniques, and waxing, stripping, buffing, and stain removal. Students in the program use all Green Seal™ certified cleaning products.

CWS Job Club meets bi-weekly on Thursdays and creates a dedicated time and space for all participants actively looking for employment to come together as a community, share their experiences with each other and get support and learn about upcoming job fairs and relevant job leads. It also provides a forum to invite business partner hiring managers or guest speakers to connect with applicants.
